LO1/C Teaching Hebrew
A while back, I would always go and volunteer at my Sunday school to teach Hebrew. While I was there, I was part of a group called Ozrim that is effectively someone that has completed their Bar Mitzvah and is still coming back to Sunday school and volunteering. I am part of this group because I feel it is important to give back to the community that once helped me when I was getting ready for my Bar Mitzvah. When I am helping out, I choose to teach Hebrew. This is mainly because I am pretty good at Hebrew and reciting prayers. With this being said, everyone Sunday morning I would go into the classroom and sit down with a student that was prepping for their Bar Mitzvah. They would tell me the prayers they were struggling with and I would help them. Although, the one thing that I struggled with helping the kids with was their Torah portions. The Torah portion is a unique prayer that the person having their Bar Mitzvah must-read. Considering I have not practiced every prayer in the large prayer scroll known as the Torah, I struggled with helping them on this part.
As one can see, my strengths include reciting prayers. I was able to apply my strength of reading Hebrew by helping the Bar Mitzvah students with generic prayers such as the V'ahavta and the Avot v'Imahot. On the contrary, some of my areas of growth include learning the different Torah portions. I want to become more proficient with reading prayers from the Torah so that I will be able to help the students even more in getting them prepared for becoming an adult in the Jewish Religion (having a Bar Mitzvah).
