LO6/A Biking Over Driving

Carbon emissions are a serious problem that is plaguing our community. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been trying to ride my bike over using the car. An example of this was when I wanted to go to the Rice Village on a Friday to grab some food. I was thinking about using my car, as I usually would drive. However, I began thinking about the carbon emissions that were being emitted from my car when I was driving around. I then decided I was going to ride my bike because there was no need to take my car. I had gotten so used to just grabbing my keys, hopping in the car, and driving that I didn't realize the consequences of my actions. Another example of riding my bike was when I wanted to go to the park. I was originally going to drive because it was a little farther away, but I decided against it.  Previous times I would drive to the park to walk around, but this time I chose to ride my bike.     After looking at these examples, one can clearly see...

LO7/A Walking with My Friends

A couple weeks ago, I was quite bored and decided to see if some of my friends wanted to go walk around somewhere. Mainly to just get exercise and get out of the house. I ended up calling two friends, and they both said they could come. I then asked my parents if my friends could come over, and they talked about how I should be super cautious about the virus. I told them I was going to be careful by wearing a mask and staying six feet apart. I then waited for my friends to arrive so that we could start walking.     Once everyone got to my house, we began our journey. I told my friends right at the beginning of the walk that we needed to be careful of the virus. They agreed, and we went on to stay six feet apart with our masks on. We ended up talking a lot about what everyone had been doing since we hadn't seen each other. After a little while, we decided we were hungry and walked to Chipotle (more than a mile walk). When we got to Chipotle, we ordered our food, and then ...

LO5/A Golfing with My Dad

Today I decided I wanted to go to the golf range to try and work on my swing. I knew I was having trouble as I was hitting some pretty bad shots at my golf lesson, and I wanted to see if I could fix anything. As I was walking out the door, I asked my dad if he would like to join me. He was super excited and responded with a "yes, that sounds fun." We then drove over to Herman Park to hit our golf clubs.     Once we got there, we bought some golf balls, walked over to the driving range, and then started hitting. I was off to a good start by hitting the balls pretty straight, but then things began taking a turn for the worse. The golf balls were now hooking really far right. I kept on hitting and trying to readjust my swing, but nothing was working. I became so frustrated with myself as I couldn't hit a good swing. My dad could see the anger boiling up inside of me and told me that he would help me with my swing. So, I asked if he could look at my swing from ...

LO1/S Volunteering at My Synagogue

Every Sunday morning I go to volunteer at my Synagogue. When I go, I am actively helping to teach prayers, songs, and helping out with small events. However, due to the Coronavirus, things have been a little different. Instead of going in person, the whole synagogue is online. With this being said, I had to switch to working with the 9th and 10th graders instead of with the younger kids because it would be extremely difficult to teach the younger students over a zoom class. Although, that doesn't mean I am not going to stop volunteering and being a role model. In class, I am always attempting to be of service when needed, involved, and overall attentive to the conversation even if everyone else isn't. I am applying my strengths of being a leader and someone that is helpful. I know that this is a difficult time for many, especially for the students that have to stay home all the time, and the teachers that are trying their best to teach without being in person. Using...
