LO1/S Volunteering at My Synagogue
Every Sunday morning I go to volunteer at my Synagogue. When I go, I am actively helping to teach prayers, songs, and helping out with small events. However, due to the Coronavirus, things have been a little different. Instead of going in person, the whole synagogue is online. With this being said, I had to switch to working with the 9th and 10th graders instead of with the younger kids because it would be extremely difficult to teach the younger students over a zoom class. Although, that doesn't mean I am not going to stop volunteering and being a role model. In class, I am always attempting to be of service when needed, involved, and overall attentive to the conversation even if everyone else isn't. I am applying my strengths of being a leader and someone that is helpful. I know that this is a difficult time for many, especially for the students that have to stay home all the time, and the teachers that are trying their best to teach without being in person. Using my strengths, I strive to improve the lives of others through my capability of taking initiative, being engaged, and always trying to help. With this in mind though, I still have areas for growth.
Some of my areas for growth include trying to get the kids that don't want to participate as much to be more involved. There are some students in the 9th and 10th grade who are super excited to talk, while there are also some that aren't. It can be quite difficult for me to engage the students while being online as I am not in person and able to talk to them face to face. I feel that I can work on helping to engage the quieter kids by inviting them into the conversation. This will hopefully allow them to feel more comfortable and then to engage in the class.
