LO1/A Learning to Handstand
A while back, I decided that I wanted to learn how to do a handstand. I had done gymnastics for a period of my life and I got pretty good at it. However, I ended up quitting because of the amount of work I was getting in school. One of the things that I wanted to learn was how to do a handstand and walk around. Years later after I quit, I chose to learn how to do it. So, the first thing I did was find the best place to do a handstand. I realized that it would be best to do it in my front yard on the grass. This way if I fall, I am only falling on the soft grass. I then went outside to the front yard to start practicing my handstands. Once I got outside, I thought I was going to be able to handstand. When I tried it, I immediately fell over. I realized that this was going to be harder than I thought. So, I decided to brainstorm the best ways I could start to learn to handstand. I figured the best way is to start in a headstand. My balance was pretty good, so I was able to stay in the headstand for a while. After getting extremely comfortable with my headstand, I went to a wall in my front yard and did a handstand with my feet against the wall. I did this a couple of times to get the feel of being in a handstand. I then got my dad to come outside and hold one of my legs while I was in the handstand. This way I could focus on balancing more. Once I felt comfortable with my dad holding my foot while I was in the handstand, I started to do the handstand on my own. I was much better off than when I first tried the handstand, but I wasn't able to hold the handstand for a while. However, I kept on practicing until I was able to hold the handstand for longer and longer.
As one can see, my strengths include my headstand skill, my sense of balance, and my physical coordination. I was able to use my sense of balance, physical coordination, and headstand skills to learn how to do a handstand. Moreover, some of my areas of growth that I developed were my handstand skills. I wasn't able to do a handstand at first, but I kept on working on it until I became more consistent with this difficult skill.
